Robots In Disguise...As A Crap Movie

Hollis Gillespie's review of Transformers 2:

It's all explosions and destruction and "the amulet! the amulet!" and honor and "remember what I did for my country" and ancestry and "I love you, son" and save-the-world and find-the-boy and "the sacred seven" and "the hidden portal" and cover-me! and I'm-going-in! and no-don't-go-in! and I'll-wait-for-you! and "Run, Sam!" and I-won't-leave-you! ... Read Moreand you-must-leave-me! and "this is my moment" and BOOM! and BANG! and KApLOW! and "No! Sam! No!" and the Fallen and the Risen and the Rubble and the Passage to Manhood and the clinging of the girls to the Manhood and the fucking setting sun and fucking day's work is done. Fuck. It took two showers to get the testosterone off me.

But wait, there's more!

Well, all I can say is poor, poor Ed McMahon. Second banana throughout his life, and now even his death has been back-burnered for Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, and--to a lesser degree, I suppose--Billy Mays.

It's all in the timing.

*****

"For Rent" signs went up in the lawns of the houses on each side of ours recently, which is a little nerve-racking; we live near a college campus, and the neighborhood reflects that. The aforementioned houses have had consistent, thoughtful tenants for the past year or so, and we're sad to see them go, and wary of who'll be replacing them. A couple of days ago, Todd was doing yard work in the front when a vehicle pulled up. It was a woman showing one of the houses to a gaggle of giggling girls. Todd stood his ground, giving the stink-eye to each girl, and making the realtor nervous. My hero.

It's the great sneaker, Charlie Brown!

Where are these available, and how can I squeeze my 11 1/2 size foot into a kid's shoe?

Friday Night Fever

Last Friday, Kaci, Charlie & I went to support our friend Brett in his dance debut. Well, "debut", might be stretching it--Brett once attempted a dance-off with a line dancing cowboy on meth at a local gay bar, but the guy didn't understand the rules and just tried to dance with Brett. So let's just say this was Brett's first performance in which the audience was primarily stage mothers. As you can see from the video below, the results were pretty spectacular (you'll recognize Brett because he's the only male in the performance):

Ryan and Betty throw down!
